Responding to the news that cancer deaths in Scotland increased from 16,105 in 2017 to 16,153 in 2018, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton MSP said:

"The Scottish Government's record on cancer waits has been scandalous. Far too many patients who receive the devastating diagnosis endure long and anxious waits for treatment. That's bad for people's mental health and for their chances of recovery.

"The Health Secretary should not let anything stand in the way of patients getting swift and reliable cancer care. She must take swift actions to address staff shortages and boost resources for our cancer services."
