Responding to Nicola Sturgeon's comments that Scotland will be independent in five years, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said:

"People have seen that breaking up political partnerships leads to chaos and confusion. The last thing that most people want is turmoil with independence to top off the chaos of Brexit.

"Just imagine what could be achieved if the nationalists were prepared to spend five years working to improve health and education instead.

"Nicola Sturgeon needs to learn the lessons of Brexit: breaking up is hard to do."
