Commenting as the Scottish Government has announced it is to extend its "Hospital at Home" initiative - which enables patients to be treated at home rather than being admitted to hospital - across Scotland, Scottish Liberal Democrat health spokesperson Jim Hume MSP said:
"This is the road we want to be travelling if we are to ensure that our NHS can support Scotland's changing needs. With more people living longer lives and requiring more long-term care, patients and the NHS will benefit from shifting that balance of care from hospitals to the community.
"This will allow more people to have the reassurance of home comforts even whilst in treatment. It will also alleviate demand for hospital beds. Scottish Liberal Democrats are encouraged by the extension of the project and hope it is a sign of things to come from the Scottish Government."
