Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has called on NicolaWillie Rennie MSPWillie Rennie MSP Sturgeon to commit to talks on more powers in the event of a No vote.

With Scottish Labour now calling for a national convention on Scotland's future in the event of a no vote, Mr Rennie has said that further devolution will be best won with broad support from all parties.

Commenting, Mr Rennie said:

"Should Scotland reject independence in 2014 we can continue our home rule journey. This is the same journey which has delivered the Scottish parliament and the most significant transfer of fiscal powers in 300 years through the recent Scotland Act. It's been disappointing that the SNP have been reluctant bystanders at every stage.

"In the event of a No vote in 2014 it will be in every party's gift to set out what happens next. I hope that Nicola Sturgeon will put to bed the surly approach which saw her party walk out of the Constitutional Convention and attempt to undermine the significant Scotland Act.

"More powers will be best won with every party championing its cause. Liberal Democrats have set our plans for home rule in a federal UK. And now Scottish Labour has touted a national convention to bring together ideas for the way ahead. And the Conservatives have indicated they now want more powers. The consensus for more powers has been strengthened by contributions from Reform Scotland and IPPR in their devolution reports.

"Along with this momentum it would be a loss to Scotland if the SNP chose to stand out in the dark from home rule once more. The SNP should commit to continue our home rule journey and work to deliver a stable and lasting constitutional settlement in the event of a No vote in 2014."
